参考答案

The Grand Canal is the longest man-made river in the world, running from Beijing in the north to Hangzhou in the south. It is one of the most magnificent projects in Chinese history. First built in the 4th century BC, the Grand Canal was completed at the end of the 13th century AD. At the very beginning, it was built to transport grain, and later it was used to transport other goods. Thus the areas along the Canal gradually developed into the industrial and commercial centers of China. For a long time, the Grand Canal has played an important role in the economic development of China, and has greatly promoted the personnel and cultural exchanges between the North and the South.
